Anthony M. Hassan

CLINICAL ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AND DIRECTOR, USC CENTER FOR INNOVATION AND RESEARCH ON VETERANS AND MILITARY FAMILIES

A retired Air Force officer, he brings 25 years of experience in military social work and leadership development. Hassan served during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004 on the first-ever Air Force combat stress control and prevention team embedded with the Army.

While at USC since 2009, Hassan has been instrumental in the exponential growth of the military social work program and community-based research on veterans and military families. He has overseen the expansion of the Los Angeles Veterans Collaborative, a collective network of more than 250 public, private and government organizations that share best practices for veterans and military families. His relationships with the most senior levels of leadership in the U.S. Department of Defense, Washington, D.C. and City of Los Angeles have helped recognize CIR and the USC School of Social Work as national and international leaders in military behavioral health education, research and community capacity building.

Hassan serves as chair of the task force for developing national guidelines for military social work graduate programs as well as a member of the Commission on Professional Development for the Council on Social Work Education. He also serves on the Los Angeles City Workforce Investment Board and is a mayoral appointee on the Military Veteran Advisory Council, a new initiative out of the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs.
